Democracy, Elections, Pressure Groups, Unit 1

An exciting year for reform buffs

The Electoral Reform Society (in itself a good example of a pressure group, which is used to provide expert information for government e.g. to the Commission looking into reforming the Lords) blog has provided a great run through of all the elements of constitutional and electoral change we can expect during 2012- it runs through elected Police Commisssioners using SV, local elections in England, Wales and Scotland (using STV), potential developments in the quest for Lords Reform not to mention Individual Electoral Registration (IER) and the Boundary Review. Although the Constitution is a Unit 2 topic (no doubt you are all hoping that’s done and dusted at this point) these case studies are invaluable for the Democracy and Elections topic that you have yet to do!
