Referendums- Loading the Question

Referendums are seen by some as a way of integrating direct democracy into the UK system and a means of reengaging the electorate. However, others see them as a device utilised in the main by dictators. The level of democracy associated with a referendum is often linked to the question, which should of course (in theory) be neutral.

This piece in the NS suggests that Alex Salmond’s question for 2014 is worded in a way that increases support for a yes vote.
