Conservatism on both sides of the Atlantic

Dan Hannan has written an interesting piece on the nature of both US and UK conservatism and how the Republicans in the USA have transformed themselves in recent decades. Dan Hannan is an erudite blogger albeit one who has a particular (libertarian, eurosceptic axe to grind…) this piece looks at what it means to be a conservative in the USA and the UK and compares the different levels of ideological zeal on both sides of the Atlantic.

It also raises the point that perhaps the congressional elections are more important for the Republicans than the Presidential one- if the Republicans concentrate on the Presidential election at the expense of the Congressional one, they could be defeated by Obama and the gains made in 2010 reversed at a Congressional level.
